I’m Italian. With that being said, it’s safe to say I have hair everywhere. I started shaving my legs in junior high if my memory serves me right. The hairs would start to grow back after about a day and it didn’t really seem worth it. Razors are expensive (around $25 for refills) and I was leaning more towards waxing the hairs. The problem with waxing is that doing it yourself is extremely difficult, paying for it is extremely expensive, and you have to wait a long time for the hairs to grow long enough so it’ll actually work.
So…I started epilating
I was fortunate to choose an amazing epilator on the first try. The PHILIPS Satinelle Epilator for around $40 CAN found and Wal-Mart.
What is an epilator and how does it work?
Epilators essentially tweeze the hairs from their follicles. It’s the same results as waxing, since the hair is getting pulled. Therefore the hairs grow back slower and lighter (compared to shaving or using the cream). These tweezers are made in a way to essentially thread the hairs and pull them out. This specific epilator has three different speed settings, which determines how fast your hairs will be pulled. They do this because at the beginning, it hurts…and it hurts a lot.
Fast forward 4 years and this is the only way I remove hair on my legs, arm pits, (sometimes because of the pain) upper lip, toes (yes), and bikini area. The only reason I don’t do my arms is because I feel like it’s not a big deal for women to have arm hair. The first time you use the epilator for ANYTHING it will hurt because your hairs follicle is extremely thick (due to you always shaving it) but I promise, the more you do it, the less pain it will be.
I now have “bald spots” on my legs where hairs don’t even grow anymore and if the hair does eventually grow, it takes about a week and a half (or longer sometimes) for there to be even a little sprout come through the skin. My bikini area doesn’t even grow anymore, and my armpits take about 2 weeks to grow back. Also, to add, my armpits don’t have those black bumps anymore –it’s completely smooth.
Even after all this time, it still hurts like a b**** to use it on my upper lip, especially the middle part. So if your pain tolerance is really low, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Not many people know about epilators, and I think it’s a VERY useful way to get rid of hairs.
If you have ANY questions, please feel free to ask.
**Update – I now started receiving treatments for laser hair removal on the Brazilian area. A blog review on that will come soon**
